Pray for All Governing Authorities

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. RO 13:1-2
We would like to think that we have no responsibility to pray for governing authorities of foreign countries, but the Word of God says that God has established every one of them. And if you think it's OK to speak ill of a President because he does or says things which might be disagreeable to you, consider that God is the One who put him or her in a position of authority and it is our responsibility to pray for them rather than criticize them. There are legitimate responses to the faults and failings of our leaders, such as words of correction and rebuke, or even legal means to have him or her removed from office, but while they are in office, rebellion against them is rebellion against what God has instituted. Be careful what you say about our elected officials, and by all means please pray for them.
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:1-2
