The Tradition of The Rosary

Part 1

The True Church

By Bruce W. Robida

Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 1CO 11:3

For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. EPH 5:23

These Scriptures clearly show our position as God has assigned to each of us.  God is the head of Christ, Christ is the head of every man and at the same time He is the head of the Church and the husband is the head of the wife.  The Church is not some institution of elders, making rules and regulations for ordinary men to follow.  The Church is much more than that.  The Church does have elders, but it is not their responsibility to make rules and regulations or even enforce rules and regulations.  Anyone who is called an elder has a responsibility to instruct the others according to what the Bible says and he must not ignore some parts while emphasizing others. The responsibilities of elders, as well as each member of the body of Christ that is, the Church, varies depending upon the gifts and talents which God has given them.  The Bible tells us:

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.  And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.  Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way. 1CO 12:27-31

All believers fall into one or more of the categories mentioned above. God assigns to each of us, gifts and talents which, He expects us to use for His own purpose.  The Bible says that the Church is the body of Christ of which He is the head and that all believers comprise that Church and are part of His body.

Why have I begun this essay in this way?  So that every believer understands the truth about the Church.  It is important to understand that the Church is not some great institution with unapproachable leaders who are elevated to positions of power because they have elevated themselves or they have allowed others to elevate them.  We who love God, who believe in the true Christ, are the Church.  No man on earth is above any other man.  Christ is the head of the Church and He is the head of every man.  Popes, Bishops, Cardinals, Priests, Pastors, etc., are not the heads of any believer.  They are simply elders in the Church, responsible to do the job that God has assigned to them.  They have a responsibility to speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.  This truth comes to us by way of the Bible.

In Part Two we'll take a look at tradition.
