Mr. Gene Robinson,
You claim that you have not sinned by not only living a lifestyle that is called an abomination to God
(Lev. 18:22, Lev. 20:13), but by promoting that lifestyle as well. As a priest, and especially a bishop, you have influence over hundreds of thousands of Church members, and as such, you will be judged more harshly because you are also a teacher (James 3:1). I say that you claim to have not sinned because you are trying to justify the homosexual lifestyle rather than confess that lifestyle as a sin. You would be much better off in the sight of God if you admitted that homosexuality is sinful and confessed it to God even though you might struggle to repent of that sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:8-11 NIV
Mr. Robinson, you are one in a long succession of religious leaders who have been a pawn of Satan in bringing the Church of Christ into disrepute. To non-Christians, it makes no difference whether you are a Roman Catholic priest, a Baptist minister, or an Anglican Bishop, they only see the Church of Christ as a haven for sexually deviant leaders. While you may be a beacon of hope for some (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Trans-gender), Christ calls you to be a beacon of hope holding forth the Word of Life (Philippians 2:15-16). The Word of Life is truth, not a subjective truth, but truth that comes from above. It is not truthful to call homosexuality good and normal and deny the Word of God.
But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. Psalm 50:16-17 NIV
If you did not call yourself a Christian, we would not have written to you. But it is our responsibility (like so many others have already done) to confront you with the sin that you so confidently affirm. While you may have achieved a small victory, it is one that will be short lived. If you have succeeded in changing the doctrine of the Church, which you might claim as a huge victory, I pity you even more, because God will not be mocked. Your victory on earth will be the only reward you receive if you choose not to repent. Have you forgotten that your life is but a mist compared to eternity (James 4:14)?
True love demands that sin be revealed in the lives of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. True love demands that we help our brothers and sisters avoid destructive behaviors, especially those that have the potential to destroy their very souls. While Christ loved all people, He hated their sins. He freely forgave, but demanded of the one who had been forgiven, "Leave your life of sin".
(John 8:11 NIV)
Sincerely,
Bruce W. Robida
