Welcome to The Robida Family History Website!
On this website, you'll be able to see our family tree dating
back to about 1630, and as Robida's everywhere participate, family
photo's and other important documents will also be included.
The information presented here has been gathered from various
sources, but has not been completely verified, so if you see an
error, please bring it to my attention so that I can correct it.
Of course, you will be required to show reasonable verification
before I will be willing to change things.
The Robida surname has more than 60 different
spellings. According to the
Dictionary of American Family names, Robida comes from;
- Slovenian:
nickname or topographic name from
robida ‘bramble’.
- Perhaps also
French: from a pet form of Robert.
I have corresponded with Robida's around the
world, including Yugoslavia, France, Canada, and of course, the
United States, so both definitions above are most likely
correct although I have not found Slovenian connections... yet.
I also believe there might be Spanish connections
based on scant evidence, but that too remains a mystery. If enough
Robida's participate in this project, maybe we'll get to the bottom
of it.
Your participation is vital! I have several different goals to
make this family history as complete as possible.
-
Each branch of the family tree should be verified.
That will require diligence from family members of each
particular branch to verify their own lineage.
-
Family photo's will enhance our overall experience as I link
names with faces.
-
Maps of cemeteries along with photo's of grave markers will
also enhance our experience as important facts can often be
gleaned from such places.
-
Important documents such as birth, marriage, death, and
immigration records will also be included as these can be great
verification sources.
-
Newspaper articles, as well as obituaries will be included
here as well.
-
Any source that you feel is worthy of adding to this web
site will be considered, and most likely used.
-
Links
will be provided to individual family members worldwide, including
e-mail addresses, web sites, or other means to contact, or
otherwise connect with relatives we never knew we had.
If you would like to participate, and I hope you do, please
contact me with whatever information you have, no matter how
insignificant you feel it may be. It just might be a piece of
the puzzle that someone else has been searching for.
